Giant Western Foot

So even in Nepal long weekends fly by like they never happened. The weather is now in the low 80s during the day, the 60s during the evening and a little colder at night. They say that that's pretty much how summer goes. I'm not sure what happens during the rainy season in that it only rains for a few hours a day but I don't know if it's sunny the rest of the time. We've had some new clothes made and I've been able to pick up a few of them...so cute. Linen pants, either full length or Capri ,and different kinds and colors of longer tops that look a little SE Asian but don't scream "look at me trying to be Nepali!" I only brought one pair of sandals (they are the shoe of choice here and winter simply means wearing socks with ones sandals) and so am in search of sandals in size "giant western foot". The most popular everyday style is kind of a jazzed-up, bedazzled version of a flip-flop and so that all sounds good to me. This weekend we were all pleased with ourselves because we tried a local restaurant that also happened to be Japanese (we live near the Embassy part of town and so there's a strange diversity like a local Newari-Russian place) but another friend told us afterwards that lots of people get sick there. Gulp. But no one had sushi and so things turned out fine. There are four of us who live in the apartment building that do lots of things together: the woman from MI who does election-related work, the woman from DC who does conflict-related work, and us. We went to a little jazz bar after dinner and it was that fun, SE Asians getting all funky vibe. Alright, more later about the one-year death anniversary party and the leper rehabilitation center we decided to visit. xoc
